I think what's happened, if you look back over the last 5 years is that the overall submissions have been gradually increasing but the non-beach material has been growing faster. This is probably because is is easier to shoot and beach photography has actually been gradually more difficult to shoot.
I too would like to see more beach galleries and I hereby commit myself to working on various ways to see an increase over the next year. If I have to get off my fat ass and do some shooting myself, I will. :-)
