You seem to be saying, "If you're going to get an erection, don't let it happen in MY presence!" That seems no different to me than those who say,
"If you're going to get naked, do it in the privacy of your own home and not anywhere out in public!" Unless the guy is showing off and trying to be provocative, an erection should be responded to in the same way as someone who accidently belches; LET IT GO! We all do it.
I was touched when I watched a couple who were, without a doubt, very much in love standing at the water's edge. They were in a side to side embrace, oblivious, not only to anyone else on the beach, but they seemed just as unaware of his erection. There was no indication of impending sexual activity, but were only enjoying the moment they were sharing. Within minutes, his erection had subsided, but their closeness had not. I would have deeply resented the self-appointed "erection-police" who might have disturbed that scene.
