The Southern California coast defies the seasons. Sometimes in January and February, we will get an "Indian Summer" whereby it will be in the upper 70s and sunny. Nice crowds will go.
Then from about March to July, it gets spotty, and we get "June Gloom". Some days it's overcast and a cold wind blows making it uncomfortable to even wear a bathing suit. Then other days, like yesterday, are hot and sunny. Yesterday the beached in San Diego were packed.
On a final note, the number of beach goers at Blacks is rarely over a few hundred. I've seen "thousands" mentioned, and it seems that way because a few hundred are spread over a couple of miles. One sunny July 4th at 2:00 p.m., I walked the length of the entire beach and rough count. On the busiest day of the year, there were about 600 +/-, including the gay section far to the north and the more mixed (clothing and c/o) area to the south of the Glider port trail. Those are closer to reality.
: : : I wasn't clear when I asked about the crowds. I'm curious if it's too early in the season now to expect there to be many people, or would it be better to wait 3 or 4 weeks.
