Look Brad, I don't want to argue with you about a place that I really love. Loreto is a fabulous place but it is not tropical like Cabo is. Just look at the weather they are having there today. In loreto, the highs are in the high 60's to low 70's. The lows are in the 30's. In Cabo, the highs are in the high 70's and the lows are in the 60's. It's the average temperature that determines the temperature of the sea. From mid-March to mid-November, Loreto has great weather although a little hot in June and July. Cabo is balmy all year round because it's actually in the Tropics and is blocked from the northern winds by the Sierra Mountains.

I am just trying to warn folks from thinking they are going to find a tropical getaway in Loreto if they go in December, January, or February. It could well be cooler then than what they are expecting.

: You are absolutely wrong about winter in Baja. I've stayed in San Felipe, far to the north on the Sea of Cortez during winter at my inlaws, and the water was very pleasant. San Felipe comes apart during spring break and the beaches are packed. Loreto's highest tourist months are in winter to spring, which is why room rates escalated at that time. And I repeatedly went kayaking during that time. During the summer it gets blistering hot, too unpleasant, which is why we go in the winter.
: : You obviously don't know Baja. Sure there are no freeways but the roads are not crowded and you can drive pretty much the same as in the mountains of the Western US although the road is a little narrower and RVers need to be cautious. : : The problem with Loreto is it's really hot in the summer and it's not tropical in the winter. Swimming in the sea is not viable in the Dec to Mar period unless you are used to cold water. Also, there ain't much to do around there at night. Cabo has the nightclubs and a tropical climate. That said, there are not too many places more beautiful than the Loreto - Muleje area in the Spring and Fall. : : Pete
