Avila Beach (Pirates Cove) is a great spot regardless of the nudity. It is a beautiful cove that is worth the trip even if nudity isn't your goal.

As with all nude beaches I've been to, you can expect the men to outnumber the women. Depending upon the day the ratio changes. Insofar as nudists, a good day you'll see 70% men, 30% women. A bad day will be 85 or 90% men. Crowds range from a few dozen to well over 100 on a sunny weekend.
There is often groups of girls or girls with guys that go to the beach, but don't take their suits off. They stay mainly on the north end, however, nudists feel free to lay out nude anywhere, including the north end. I've developed rapport with some of these females - they are often friendly and get a kick out of chatting with a naked guy.
The crowd is a local one, so be polite as they do band together to stop objectionable behvior. I've never seen any PDAs at Avila (public displays of affection or sex). In general, it is a friendlier crowd than, say, Blacks.
