While not a loyal fan, I have visited Lighthouse Beach on several occasions over the past couple of summers. I, too began as a home nudist, and seek to broaden my experience and exposure.
: When does the weather normally get warm enough in the NYC Metro area?
I think you will be looking at around May or June. Frequent summer breezes seem to keep the beach cooler than the inland sections of Long Island though, as well as the city.
: Also, any advice on what to expect.
As is typical of most U.S. nude beaches, expect around 80-90% men and 10-20% women. Also, most women will typically be paired up with their spouse or significant other. The area is regularly patrolled with police or park rangers on 4X4 vehicles, so don't expect much in the way of blatant sexuality. Also, stay clearly in the nude areas marked by the signs, or you risk police/park ranger attention.
Many of the regulars seem to bring tent-like enclosures that they build (walls but no roof), some perhaps for blocking the wind, and I'm sure some for privacy from gawkers, discreet sexual activity or alcohol consumption. I'd like to see what goes on behind some of these enclosures, especially when a beautiful woman stands up from behind one of these barriers to stretch or look around.
Warm weather weekends draw huge crowds, while weekdays are quieter. Occasionally I have enjoyed some nice nude female scenery while also being nude myself. Women seem suspicious and afraid of lone clothed men, as well as lone men with erections. All that said, I'll be back this summer, always hoping for a little higher ratio of females.
