Dear Tourist
Salzburg like all German and Austrian towns is fabulous for co-ed mixed saunas. All the hotels have co-ed mixed saunas. You just strip completely when you enter the sauna area and enjoy the high heat completely nude.
It is important to sit on your towel in the sauna since the locals take great offense if your body is in direct contact with the wood benches.
It is fantastic to relax while baking for hours in the sauna. Almost all saunas have an eis-dusche (ice shower) or cold plunge pool for cooling off. the freezing cold water after you have cooked your body past well done in the sauna is so refreshing.
Almost all people in the area speak English and it is great to bake in the sauna and make new friends. The frequent visitors will tell you more about the town and it is fun to compare notes with other travelers. While visiting Weisbaden Germany I met two nice German men who agreed to take me to dinner after we all completed the sauna process. When I met them in the lobby, one commneted, "I hardly recognized you with your clothes on." I laughed since we had met while completely nude and my hiar was a mess from swimming.
There also is a pool and sauna complex on the outskirts of Salzburg that I haven't viisted yet. I understand that it is very good. It is advertised in all the local guides.
Salzburg itself is wonderful. It is one of the most cultural ciites in Europe and the home of Mozart. the main street has great shops though they may be expensive. However I visited once in October like you are and many had end of season discounts so I bought this wonderful woolen Austrian jacket in salmon for about ½ price.
There are many concerts and you should attend one since it is the home of Mozart. On the main street there is the actual house that Mozart lived in before he moved to Vienna. The sandwich shop on the first floor is a branch of a very famous one in Vienna and the litlle sandwiches coist about one or two euros and make a great snack.
Enjoy
Greta
