Although it's an extreme stretch to compare this type of photography work to that provided by camera crews, or, say, a film maker for a nature channel, one thing you realize is that it's being at the right place at the right time, and that means a lot of hours spent with nothing to show for it.

For every few moments of footage you see, there are thousands that were not worth a damn, or alternatively, a lot of lost opportunities.

Time, patience....that's what it's all about.
