i definitely prefer lighthouse, for a few reasons.

1. better bodies. there's a closer m/f ratio, and a generally younger population. it's also less crowded, so finding a place to lie down is easier, and walking around away from the shore is easier to navigate.

2. better beach. the beach at gunnison itself isn't all that pleasant. the sand along the shore is rough, and there are jellyfish in the water everywhere. maybe it's the time of year, or the way the tides flow, but i haven't seen a jellyfish problem at lighthouse all season.

3. better access. if you don't have a car, the only way to get to gunnison from nyc is via a ferry that costs almost thirty dollars. the train to long island is a lot cheaper, albeit a longer trip. even the walk to lighthouse from the main parking area makes the cost difference worthwhile.
